Locksley is a new band with an old sound -- but that's not to say they aren't fresh. Taking the feel-good sounds of 60s pop and infusing them with a punk energy and ethos, they've created a contemporary indie original: a band with no label that's already had a popular video on MTV and an ever-growing international, multigenerational fan base. They might be the only band around that could make you and your mother stand on a table and scream like a school-girl.
The members of Locksley, who hail from the heartland state of Wisconsin, have been living in a New York (in the Borough of Brooklyn) since they released their debut self-titled EP. Their heartfelt rock sound, which Blogcritics.com has described as "The Beatles pre-Rubber Soul, mixed with the Kinks, a bit of The Beach Boys and plenty of the youthful enthusiasm," is a healthy departure from the usual ironic retro filler many indie rock bands pump out. And since the release of their first full-length album, Don't Make Me Wait, they've been making some impressive waves in a city where musical competition is fierce.
- Their music has been featured in a Payless Shoes commercial
- Locksley's video for the track Why Not Me? has been in heavy rotation on MTVu -- MTV's college-only network -- making Locksley the only unsigned band to have a video in rotation on the channel.
- The boys served one of the final tenures as House Band for the seminal (and now closed) punk club CBGBs. (Where About.com saw them live.)
- MTV asked the boys to write the theme song for their show Why Can't I Be You?
- The band has been hailed as a "Hey, This is Awesome" band on Spin.com and a "Band of the Week" in Blogcritics Magazine.
