Austra's 2nd LP, Olympia, Out in June

By April 18, 2013

Follow me on:

Austra will release their second LP, Olympia, on June 18, through Domino. The Canadian electro outfit are lead by the remarkably-voiced Katie Stelmanis, and this marks the first record on which the full lineup —which includes drummer Maya Postepski (AKA Princess Century, also of Trust), and twin backing vocalists Sari and Romy Lightman (also of Tasseomancy)— has appeared.

Olympia is a really, really brilliant record; furthering the sound of the band's debut LP, Feel It Break, which made them one of 2011's biggest breakout bands. Early highlights include the reggae-tinged shuffle of "We Become," the cascading harmonies of the pulsing "Painful Like," and the resplendent rococo-electro of "Fire."

Then there's the first single, "Home," which hints at the album's dancier, more-percussion-laden leanings, and throws itself into Stelmanis's newfound role as lyrical confessionalist.

Austra have a handful of dates on the horizon (they've toured with The xx, Grimes, and Gossip in the past), and hopefully there's more; Olympia is definitely feeling like one of 2013's best albums...

Olympia Track List:
1. "What We Done?"
