Úlfur Hansson is an Icelandic musician who has, most notably, done time in the touring band for Sigur Rós leader Jónsi. It's most notable because on his debut solo LP, White Mountain —issued, as with his bandleader, under the iconic singular of Úlfur— Hansson makes with the blissful, breathy, glacially-paced ambience; taking place in a holy realm of billowing sound that will appeal to Sigur Rós's more trance-lovin' fans.
"So Very Strange," the first single from White Mountain, finds Úlfur collaborating with Alexandra Sauser-Monnig of vocal-harmony trio Mountain Man, who spent stints on the road opening for Jónsi. Here, Sauser-Monnig's vocals are washed-out and wordless, but they're as much about the sound of her breath as anything else; Hansson's own breathing used as a rhythm-keeper in the absence of anything resembling percussion.
