Jerusalem in My Heart are the latest signing to Constellation Records, and come from deep in the label's Montréal scene: JIMH leader Radwan Ghazi Moumneh having long worked at the near-sacred Hotel2Tango studio space. His two collaborators in the band show this certainly isn't a run of the mill rockband, though: Chilean-born video/installation artist Malena Szlam Salazar, and French producer Jérémie Regnier (who shouldn't be confused with much-acclaimed Belgian actor Jérémie Renier) .
Jerusalem in My Heart are a live concern foremost, with their music a performance in which projected films play as defining a role as sound. But, on record, they're still plenty fascinating. A Lebanese ex-pat living in Québec, Moumneh's music draws from traditional Arabic music, minimal synthesizer sound-scapes, and drone; creating hypnotic and repetitive mantras matching the whir of blips and oscillating sine-waves with Moumneh's plaintive singing.
"Yudaghdegh El-ra3ey Walal-Ghanam" marks the first taste from Mo7it Al-Mo7it, Jerusalem in My Head's March-due debut album.
