Artist: How to Dress WellTrack: "& It Was U (Elite Gymnastics Remix)"
From: The most melancholy dancefloor in the world
Label: Acéphale
Acéphale label-mates How to Dress Well and Elite Gymnastics have a history of remixing each other, and it's always interesting to hear how radically they change up each other's jams. How to Dress Well's Tom Krell has turned Elite Gymnastics exuberant electronic mayhem into a hushed, ghostly séance, and, here, Elite Gymnastics' James Brooks flips that script.
"& It was U" was already HTDW's poppiest —and, if you're operating solely within the context of his music, clubbiest— moment. But the Elite Gymnastics remix is a piece of uptempo house-pop that could, actually, really get played on an actual dancefloor. Of course, there's still Krell singing, and even if "& It Was U" is one of his sweet devotionals, there's still loss lingering in the lyrics, and that ache in his falsetto. Photo © Andrew Volk
