Sleep ∞ Over Issues New Single, Tours Australia/New Zealand

By January 31, 2013

Follow me on:

Sleep ∞ Over's debut LP, Forever, was one of the best records of 2011; boasting a pair of brilliant singles, "Romantic Streams" and "Casual Diamond," that played like half-dreamt slow-jams dredged from the deep haze of dreaming.

Now, Sleep ∞ Over siren Stefanie Franciotti is back with a brand new single. "Rooftop" is out now on Hippos in Tanks, and it feels every bit as misty and mystical as anything from Forever. It comes backed with an eerie, elusive cover of Vashti Bunyan's "I Want to Be Alone."

It's the first taste of what could be a new Sleep ∞ Over LP. Or two. "I'm already knee deep in the process," Franciotti told me, in a recent interview. "I've been working on a more arty record for about a year. It's more outside the box, non-traditional song structure. Wading through that has been more difficult than working on this other album I'm making simultaneously, where I'm writing more direct, hard-hitting songs. I'm still figuring out whether it's going to be one record, or whether it's going to be two records."

Franciotti will be testing new material out on her first tour through Australia and New Zealand, with Asian dates planned thereafter, and her new album (or two) due before 2013 is out.

Where to Be Alone:
February 1: Melbourne, Australia - Liberty Social
February 2: Adelaide, Australia - Lost City Festival
February 3: Perth, Australia - Geisha Bar
February 5: Sydney, Australia - The Square
February 6: Auckland, New Zealand - Whammy Bar
February 7: Wellington, New Zealand - Mighty Mighty
February 8: Wainuiomata, New Zealand - Camp A Low Hum
