Track: "5 Days"
From: No World LP
Released: February 19, 2013
Los Angeleno brothers Andrew and Daniel Aged have a long history as session musicians for a range of pop heavyhitters (their CV including work with Elton John and 50 Cent, two names I'm pretty sure I've never typed on this site before), and No World, their debut Inc. LP, shows that they're studio nerds: its steady, sauntering collection of seductive slow-jams all delivered with ridiculous smoothness.
Yet, their take on Quiet Storm sounds, for all its slickness, doesn't play like the pop records that the Ageds have played on. Instead of being heavily compressed and radio-ready 'hot,' there's an artful airiness to their sound; a hesitance to let things ever get too heated.
Andrew Aged's voice may be 'soulful,' but he ain't no belter. On "5 Days," the first single from the first Inc. LP, every time Aged exhales "five days," all fluttery and asthmatic, it's like he's adrift on memory bliss; making melancholy music that'll appeal more to fans of, like, How to Dress Well and Chad Valley, rather than those who love Sir Elton and Fiddy.
