It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas. If you're a Sufjan Stevens fan. Six years after his original five-disc Christmas box-set, Sufjan will release a whole new five-disc seasonal box-set monstrosity. Silver & Gold: Songs for Christmas, Vols. 6-10 will be released November 13 on Steven's own Asthmatic Kitty label.
The five discs were, as is seasonal Sufjan tradition, given out to family and friends between 2006 and 2010, and they added up: eventually totaling 58 collected tracks. Members of The National, Arcade Fire, and Danielson Famile helped out, and, if you want a first taste, the 12-and-a-half-minute, The Age of Adzy psychedelic freakout "Christmas Unicorn" —which spontaneously breaks out into a Joy Divison singalong— is available for free download.
The album will be issued in both CD and LP box-sets, and involve all manner of added paraphernalia (stickers, temporary tattoos, paper ornaments, posters, songbook) in either format. Pre-orders can be made via Sufjan's website. Merry Christmas, kids.
