Grammys Announce Predictable 2010/11 Nominees

By , About.com GuideDecember 2, 2011

Follow me on:

The 54th Grammys will be assaulting the tired eyeballs of television viewers come the 12th of February, but they announced their nominees yesterday.

And the race for our old pal 'Best Alternative Album' is filled entirely with grizzled Grammy veterans, to the point where the resound with utter predictability. Lo! It's Grammy-approved alt-rock behemoth Death Cab for Cutie. Given they once received a Best Alternative Album nomination for a five-song B-sides EP, it's no surprise their overrated, tepid Codes and Keys is on board. Similarly, Radiohead's The King of Limbs and My Morning Jacket's Circuital are most un-shocking inclusions.

And, then, the magnificent self-titled opus for beard-folk bro Bon Iver (pictured!) has been all over album of the year lists, so a nomination here feels vaguely just, and certainly apt.

The only mild surprise came with a nomination for Foster the People's Torches, which seems less like an acknowledgement for the album as whole, more spill-over vote recognizing their omnipresent hit single...

Anyway: a full form guide for the 'lucky' nominees, typed by me, is on its way sometime soon. Patience is a virtue.
