Chromatics Back with Kill for Love, First LP Since 2007

Follow me on:

If you've sat in the cinema to see Nicholas Winding Refn's glorified synth-pop video Drive, you've likely marveled at its hazy, '80s soundtrack. If so, you've essentially been in awe of the aura of Johnny Jewel, the producer who served as soundtrack consultant, mixer, and effective spiritual sage for Cliff Martinez's score. Jewel is the dude behind a string of downbeat disco acts —Chromatics, Glass Candy, and Desire— each as amazing as the next.

In 2007, Jewel had a killer year, being the driving force behind two of the year's best records, Glass Candy's Beatbox and Chromatics' Night Drive. Now, five years on, there's finally set to be some longplaying follow-ups.

Chromatics' latest LP, Kill for Love, will be released in January, on the Italians Do It Better imprint. You can listen to the album's title track via Johnny Jewel's Soundcloud (which, if you're new to this racket, has piles of files from his choice back catalog free to download), and there's also a suitably washed-out video doing the rounds. Oh, and, Kill for Love is, if you're in thrall to the Tick of the Clock, exactly 67 minutes and 37 seconds long.

Rumors abound there'll be a Glass Candy LP in 2012, too, but given Jewel's penchant for sitting on finished material until the 'vibe' is right, I long ago learnt to take 'new Glass Candy album imminent!' news with a grain of salt...

Kill for Love Track List:
1. "Into The Black"
2. "Kill For Love"
3. "Back from the Grave"
4. "These Streets Will Never Look the Same"
5. "At Your Door"
6. "Lady"
7. "Flashback"
8. "Running from the Sun"
9. "Dust to Dust"
10. "Birds of Paradise"
11. "Electricity"
12. "Baby"
13. "The River"
