Neutral Milk Hotel's Jeff Mangum Curates ATP Festival, Plays Live Aplenty!

By February 16, 2011

Follow me on:

Yowzers! Elusive, reluctant, mysterious Neutral Milk Hotel frontman Jeff Mangum has made a few live appearances over the past year; often at small shows, in a semi-unannounced fashion. But now Mangum has returned to the live realm in a large way.

Mangum will now play a handful of East Coast shows, scattered through the fall, appear at the Portishead-helmed All Tomorrow's Parties shindig in Asbury Park (whose line-up includes The Pop Group, Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra, Mogwai, Shellac, The Horrors, Bonnie 'Prince' Billy and piles more), and, then curate his very own ATP in December at the fest's home in Minehead, England.

Mangum will perform two sets at his own ATP —which runs from December 2-4— as well as assembling the entire bill. His first run of bands has been selected, and they're mostly Mangum pals: A Hawk and a Hacksaw, the Apples in Stereo, Superchunk, the Olivia Tremor Control. But there's also Beefheart survivors the Magic Band, (Sahara) desert rockers Tinariwen, and utterly awesome post-punk acts Young Marble Giants and the Raincoats, the latter playing their legendary debut album in its entirety.

Full details for the Mangum fest from the ATP website, and all Mangum shows below. Expect In the Aeroplane Over the Sea classics aplenty!
