From: Los Angeles, California
Story: One girl, one guitar, one drum machine, three chords
Sound: Buzzy, fuzzy, cruddy, colossally awesome
Hardly Art, the sister imprint of Sub Pop, have just announced they'll be issuing the first-ever vinyl artifact from Colleen Green, the skull-crushingly good one-woman-band currently calling California home. The "Green One" + 3 7" will be issued on March 1, and the world will be happy.
Green pricked the ears of the blogosphere in 2010 with a pair of cassettes, 4 Loko 2 Kayla and Milo Goes to Compton. Each came loaded with short, scuzzy, buzzy, funny jams cranked out in-the-red and distorting everywhere, songs rolling out two-minutes a pop. Taking cues from '60s girl-groups and '90s bubblegum pop-punk boy-bands, Green put the emphasis on melody and harmony.
Two of her bestest jams, "Green One" and "Y Do U Call Me," will turn up on the Hardly Art single. Which, one hopes, will be setting the table for the debut Colleen Green LP proper. She's already shown enough promise that I threw her on my super-exclusive 10 Bands to Watch at SXSW 2011 list; thus, I await an album with excitement.
