Metric's Breakout '09 Continues with More Touring
Wednesday September 30, 2009
Interviewing Metric frontwoman Emily Haines earlier this year, I could hear the pride in her voice as she talked at how the band were going it alone, on their own record label, for the release of their fourth album, Fantasies. We couldn't be happier with the so-called 'death of the music industry,'" Haines beamed. "I can only imagine this next chapter will be so much more interesting than what we got in the '90s: boy-band CDs in shitty jewel-cases."
Fantasies proved Metric's wisdom: in its first eight weeks of release, the album sold four times as many copies as 2005's Platinum-in-Canada Live it Out, sold in the prior four years. Even though (or because of the fact that) the album can be heard in its entirety at Metric's website.
Fresh off of losing the Polaris Prize sweepstakes to F**ked Up, Metric have just landed in Australia for their first ever shows Down Under, and have announced a lengthy run of North American shows to capitalize on their burgeoning, worlwide-breakout-style success.
