Introducing: The Big Pink

Name: The Big Pink
From: London, England
Story: Two guys, many unfortunate girls
Sound: Industrio-shoegazin'

The Big Pink's single "Dominos" seems destined for novelty-single status; merely a beer commercial away from delivering its annoying anthem of rampant, unrepentant womanizing to the ears of a million listeners. Of course, even if it doesn't crack commercial-radio airplay, the London duo have a weird kind of credibility on their side: arriving really early to the early-'90s revival party.

Musically, the pair —producer-type Milo Cordell, frontman-type Robbie Furze— are in thrall to a sound circa '91-'93, besotted with the shoegazer glories of My Bloody Valentine and the wall-of-noise ape-rock of Swervedriver; the big hooks of early Nine Inch Nails and the desperate commercialism of Stabbing Westward.

if they'd arrived wielding this sound in, say, '94, they would've been embarrassing come-latelies, but coming nearly 15 years later, and The Big Pink are at the leading edge of the revivalist curve. Their debut LP, A Brief History of Love, is due out September 22 on 4AD, and the band are already booked in for two solid months of touring whose venues seem to be anticipating an imminent blow-up.
