No Age, Deerhunter, Dan Deacon Join Forces in Collaborative Tour
Wednesday June 3, 2009
God bless Dan Deacon! The ever-optimistic one-man-party (pictured!) has taken it upon himself to try and diffuse the dreary ambience and perfunctory routines that most liveshows suffer from. Last year, Deacon premiered the 'Baltimore Round Robin Tour,' a roadshow in which 29 acts from his hometown traveled the countryside, set up in a big circle, and played in round-robin style, with the audience in the center. This year, Deacon's taking things further. Having already toured around the countryside in a van running on used vegetable oil(!) donated by show-goers, Deacon's dusted off the in-the-round idea, and taken it further. Deacon has convinced indie heavyweights No Age and Deerhunter to join him for a week of shows, in which the three acts will set up alongside each other, play songs sequentially, and, this time, will collaborate together!
Meaning: For example: when Deerhunter are kicking out the jams from their new Rainwater Cassette Exchange EP, they'll have No Age and Deacon cronies on stage helping them out. Eeep!
Showing a complete lack of snobbishness, these Very Special Shows aren't limited to major cities, but, instead, are in a few odd places, mostly in the Midwest. Citizens of Newport, Kentucky, it's time to feel some civic pride.
