Bat for Lashes' Two Suns Rises
Thursday April 9, 2009
There's never a bad reason to run a photo of England's impossibly "photogenic" Natasha Khan, the glamorous Brighton-based songstress who records as Bat for Lashes. Working with all manner of mysticism and letting loose a theatrical warble, Khan cops comparisons to Björk, Kate Bush, and Stevie Nicks routinely, and, in the eyes of many, totally measures up to those icons of flamboyant musical femininity. This week finds the release of Khan's second Bat for Lashes longplayer, Two Suns, which seems more than enough reason to run a picture of the most photogenic Miss Khan.
Featuring collaborations with members of hipster NY outfit Yeasayer and a duet with legendary, reclusive iconoclast Scott Walker, the album marks Khan's follow-up to her Bat for Lashes debut, 2006's dreamy Fur and Gold. In my review of Two Suns, I wonder what Khan's kooky lyrical tales of "knights in crystal armor" might actually be about, and wonder whether it matches up to the dashing figure cut by Fur and Gold.
