Death Cab for Cutie's Open Door Policy

Infinitely-popular alt-rockers Death Cab for Cutie have announced a follow-on, odds-and-ends EP to wrap up the Narrow Stairs era. The Open Door —due March 31 digitally, April 14 physically— is a five-track platter proffering four songs from the Narrow Stairs sessions that, for reasons that may or may not become clear on listening, 'didn't fit' onto the Gold-selling, Grammy-nominated monster. Plus a demo version of LP stand-out "Talking Bird," just for kicks.

To give The Open Door some promotional heft, Death Cab will get on the bus. The quartet's booked-up touring slate kicks off with a run of college-auditorium-centric shows, before hitting the outdoors once the weather turns nice. For many of the shows, warming the stage will be rather fine New York indie-pop pedagogues Ra Ra Riot, with Andrew Bird, Cold War Kids, and the New Pornographers also doing some supporting.
