Bonnaroo Announces 2009 Lineup

February may've just begun, but the Summer Festival season is already in full swing. Long b'fore the frost has thawed or the first swallow has sung its sweet springtime song, the outdoor-rock jamborees that dot the hot months are preening like proud peacocks.

Hot on the heels of the unveiling of Coachella's freshly-minted lineup, the furry folk from the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival have come out trumpeting their 2009 line-up (many of whom are also playing Coachella, I note). Now in its eight-year, the campout in the Tennesseean farmlands has roped in over 120 performers to fill its four days (June 11-14) in the great outdoors.

Its headliners are the tackle-football-friendly Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, legendarily jammy jam-band Phish, white person's hip-hop goofballs the Beastie Boys, and Trent Reznor's long-running industrial-music industry Nine Inch Nails. And dotted throughout the seemingly unending Bonnaroo slate are all manner of exceptional humans, from Erykah Badu to Merle Haggard.

Oh, and, also: David Byrne, TV on the Radio, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Andrew Bird, Grizzly Bear, MGMT, The Decemberists, Girl Talk, Band of Horses, Animal Collective, Neko Case, Of Montreal, Jenny Lewis, Yeasayer, Chairlift, Elvis Perkins In Dearland, Ted Leo and the Pharmacists, St. Vincent, Bon Iver, Okkervil River, and Santigold.
