Dan Deacon's Freakin' Bromst Due to Drop in March
Thursday January 8, 2009
Dan Deacon —electro-anthem authorer, king of Baltimore's music scene, soundtracker to crayon commercials, dude who released 2007's killer Spiderman of the Rings LP— has found himself a release date for his forthcoming album, Bromst. The set shall be revealed, in its 2LP entirety, by DC's Carpark Records come March 24.Given Spiderman of the Rings copped end-of-year Best-Records-of-'07 list action from folk like Pitchfork and Rolling Stone, the bar's been set pretty high for the follow-up. Recorded in numerous States of the Union (mostly, um, Montana), Bromst bomps for near 70-minutes; with hyper-manic, senses-overloading single "Get Older" clocking in at over 6.
On the album, Deacon has beavered away at intricate, complex arrangements, building on his bleeping home-made electro gadgetry with a host of acoustic instruments: drums, percussion, marimba, glockenspiel, vibraphone, player piano(!), horns, and woodwinds. Though there's much acoustic tone, things are hardly sedate; Bromst another Deacon disc made up of unendingly frenetic cuts. Rave un 2 the joy fantastic, you mad musical scientist, you.
