January 6 is here! Callooh! Callay! Happy Merriweather Post Pavilion Day! After initially scheduling January 20 as the date they'd unleashed their latest LP upon the world, those wondrous post-psychedelic dance-jam joy-cadets Animal Collective bumped forward the vinyl release of their eighth album to this very day. So, now, Merriweather Post Pavilion is here. Pressed on wax, no less. And, let me just say: what a record!

I certainly can't recall another occasion on which the year's best album was unleashed less than a week into the calendar, yet there's no doubt that Merriweather Post Pavilion will be one of the defining discs of 2009.
