Telepathe to Drop Dance Mother in February
Sunday November 2, 2008
Having already talked about my love of Telepathe, I can cut straight to the joyous news: the Brooklyn duo's debut album, Dance Mother is now due for a February 17 release date. Having just issued the killer "Chrome’s on It" as a single, Telepathe are currently on the road, rolling across the country in league with Diplo and Abe Vigoda. But, come early '09, Telepathe will finally have a debut album to their names. Produced by TV on the Radio mastermind (and huuuge Telepathe fan) Dave Sitek, Dance Mother even delivers vocal appearances by TVOTR crooner Kyp Malone and Shannon Funchess of NY punk-funk force !!! (who, incidentally, also sang on the first TVOTR EP).
The LP finds Telepathe and Sitek using the heaving bass and sinuous synths of radio-ready hip-hop production to create a kind of eerie, transcendental psychedelia. That you can dance to. Punctuated by the swelling, grandiose, seven-minute-long hymnal "Can't Stand It," Dance Mother puts in a very, very early bid for the best records of 2009. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you: the future.
