Chairlift, Darlings of the iPod, Release Debut LP and Hit Up EU
Thursday October 30, 2008
If you've seen those recent television commercials hawking the color-coded wares of the new range of iPod Nanos, then you've heard the music of New-York-by-way-of-Colorado trio Chairlift. Hailing from the same Brooklynite set as MGMT, Mixel Pixel, and Yeasayer, Chairlift fuse '80s power-balladry, retrofuturist synth squelch, and country twang together in a not-half-charming fashion.Chairlift recently released their debut LP, Does You Inspire You, which features not just "Bruises," the cute tune used to shill MP3 players, but a host of other charmed pop-songs. Having just supported Yeasayer on a short jaunt through the America, Chairlift will be plugging their album's release in Europe (where it came out this week) with a seven-country, 22-date tour through November.
