Isobel Campbell's Sunday at Devil Dirt Gets US Release Date
Wednesday October 22, 2008
Sunday at Devil Dirt, the second collaboration between former Belle & Sebastian belle Isobel Campbell and moody Screaming Trees/Gutter Twins barfly Mark Lanegan, has finally been earmarked for an American release.Matching the Scottish songstress's wan, winsome ways with the grunge reprobate's gruff, whiskey-guzzling, bass-vocal moan, the record is the follow-up to 2006's much-acclaimed The Ballad of the Broken Seas. Evoking Nancy & Lee's iconic beauty/beast pairing, Campbell and Lanegan draw from murder ballads, jukebox standards, and folk traditionals.
Back in May, when Sunday at Devil Dirt was released through Europe and Australia, I conversed with Campbell about her beginnings in Belle & Sebastian, her evolution into solo artist, and the blood, sweat, tears, and crazy cash that went into making Sunday at Devil Dirt.
Due out on November 18, from Vagrant Records, the US version comes replete with five bonus tracks as reward for your patience.
